Hazrat Hassan R.A


Islamic history is full of the legendary personalities; the personalities who always sacrificed for the right, soft in nature and pious. Hazrat Hassan Bin Ali R.A is one those pious personalities but have preference on many other because of his perfect character and pious nature.

Early life

Grandson and companion of Holy Prophet (PBUH), Abu Muhammad Hassan Bin Ali Bin Abi Talib Bin Abdul Mutlib was born in the city of Madinah in Arab. He was the elder son of Hazrat Ali and Hazrat Fatima. He was named Hassan by Holy Prophet (PBUH). Both sons of Hazrat Fatima, Hazrat Hassan and Hussain were very dear to the Holy Prophet (PBUH). There are several Hadiths that show the love of the Prophet (PBUH) for Hassan A.S. He was brought up by the Prophet (PBUH) till the age of 7 years and he also had facial resemblance with Prophet (PBUH). Holy Prophet (PBUH) died when Hazrat Hassan was 8 years old.

Character of Hassan R.A

He got great qualities of Holy Prophet like divine knowledge, intelligence, tolerance and valour. He was very humble, kind and merciful. He was a great, adorer and pious man. There are a lot of stories of Hazrat Hassan’s pity, piousness and charity.

Peace Treaty

There were some disputes between Ali R.A and Hazrat Muaaviya. After the death of Hazrat Ali, Hazrat Hassan R.A was elected as caliph but at that time Hazrat Muaaviya R.A who was the governor of Syria. Hazrat Muaaviya tried to negotiate with Hazrat Hassan R.A to avoid the war that was started in Hazrat Ali R.A khilafat period between Hazrat Ali R.A and Hazrat Muaaviya R.A. A peace treaty was signed by Hazrat Muaaviya and Hazrat Hassan R.A. After that Hazrat Hassan R.A transferred the caliphate to Hazrat Muaaviya. The terms of the peace treaty are that the security should be given to followers of Hazrat Hassan R.A and the most importantly Hazrat Muaaviya would not transfer the caliphate to his successors.


After that Hazrat Hassan R. A migrated to Madinah with his family and spent rest of his life in Madinah. One of his wives Ja’ada, the daughter of Asha’at gave poison to Hazrat Hassan R.A Before his death he summoned Hazrat Hussain and asked him to take his dead body to the grave of Holy prophet (PBUH). He died at the age of 47. He was buried in Jannat Ul Baqqi near the grave of his mother Hazrat Fatima. Hazrat Hassan R.A had nine wives. He had 9 sons and 6 daughters as well.
