Causes of Dry Hair:
In Summers pay extra attention to your hair care because the sun and humidity are your hair’s worst enemy of your hair. Sunlight yields the same damaging effect as a hot blow dryer on our hair.
2. Environmental Exposure:
Dry or brittle hair is also caused by environmental exposure or lack of sufficient sebum production. Overactive or underactive production can cause oily or dry scalp
3. Inadequate Water Intake:
Water is important for healthy hair since it prevents dehydration. Drink at least 10-12 glasses of water every day.
4. Lack of Oiling:
Lack of oiling also results in dry or brittle hair
5. Chemical Treatments:
Many treatments such as perms, hair dyes or bleaches deprive the hair of moisture, hence bringing hair moisture level down to 2%. This results in split ends.
Chlorine is another cause of dry and brittle hair. While swimming, protect your hair from chlorine from swimming pools by wearing a swimming cap.
7. Unhealthy Eating Habits:
Last but not the least, maintaining a poor diet is another reason for dry and brittle hair. Lack of vitamin, proteins, and fats lead to several hair problems.
Treatment for Dry Hair:
1. Use of Sunscreen:
People living in hot or arid climates should use hair care products that contain sunscreens (with the highest SPF level) in order to protect hair from the damaging effects of UV rays.
2. Moisturizing Your Hair:
Moisturizing your hair is another recommended treatment for dry hair. A good homemade moisturizing treatment can be prepared using 3 drops each of lavender, bay, and sandalwood essential oils. Mix with 6 tbsp water warm sesame or soy oil. Part your hair into one-inch sections and apply the mixture to the scalp. Let it rest wrapped in a towel for about 15 minutes and shampoo.
3. Conditioning Your Hair:
Hair treatments to condition your hair are also extremely important since dry and brittle hair tend to break easily. A good conditioning agent for your hair is Argan Oil, derived from the Argan plant found in Morocco. It possesses the natural ability to penetrate moisture and add instant shine to your hair. It also reduces frizz and helps protect from heat damage.
4. Use of Natural Oils:
There are 2 essential oils for dry hair treatment. Jojoba Oil contains sebum which is useful cleansing and moisturizing. It is helpful for fighting dryness by increasing hydration. Emu Oil, a deep penetrating moisturizer is found in most reputed shampoos and conditioners. It has antifungal and antibacterial properties and is used in the treatment of irritation, scalp psoriasis, eczema, and inflammation.
5. Use of Right Shampoo:
Dry and brittle hair require shampoos that do not contain alkaline or alcohol. While purchasing a shampoo, make sure to read the ingredients written at the back of the bottle.
6. Eating Healthy:
The easy and best treatment for dry hair, in my opinion, is eating healthy. A healthy diet leads to healthy hair and skin. Include the use of fruits and vegetables in your diet. Also, avoid unhealthy and oily foods. If you treat your body right, you will be rewarded with beautiful hair.
