A lunar eclipse happens when the moon passes directly behind the earth into its shadow. This may occur in the only situation when the earth, the sun, and the moon are aligned in the same direction accurately, or very narrowly so, that the earth in the middle. Therefore, a lunar eclipse may occur only when there is a night of full moon. Length and category of an eclipse wholly depend upon the moon position comparative to its detour nodes.
A complete lunar eclipse consists of direct light of sun wholly clogged by the earth’s gumshoe. Only light gotten is diverted over the shadow of the earth. That light appearances red for the similar reason which is sunset views red, due to Rayleigh of the additional blue light. Due to its red color, full lunar eclipse is occasionally named a blood moon.
Other than a solar eclipse, that can be watched simply from a convinced comparatively slight area of the world, a lunar eclipse might be observed from anyplace on the night side of the earth. A lunar eclipse continues for a few hours, however, a complete solar eclipse remains for only a limited minutes at any given place, due to the lesser size of the moon’s shadow. Lunar eclipses are safe to view without any eye protection or special precautions than solar eclipses because they are dimmer than the full moon.
Types of Lunar Eclipses
Eclipse of a moon may only happen at full moon, and only when the Moon passes through some part of the shadow of the earth. This shadow is in fact comprised of two cone formed mechanisms, one placed inside the other. The external shadow is a region where the earth blocks portion but not all of the Sun’s rays from reaching the moon. In contrast, the inner shadow is a zone where the Earth blocks all straight sunshine from reaching the moon.
There are three basic types of lunar eclipses which are as follows:-
External/Penumbral Lunar Eclipse
The Moon passes through Earth’s penumbral shadow.
These events are of only academic interest because they are subtle and hard to observe.
Partial Lunar Eclipse
A portion of the moon passes through Earth’s inner shadow.
These events are easy to see, even with the natural eye.
Total Lunar Eclipse
The entire moon passes through Earth’s internal shadow.
These events are quite outstanding due to the moon’s vibrant red color during the total phase (completely).
An eclipse of the moon takes place, everybody on the night side of earth can see it. Around 36% of all eclipses are of the penumbral type which is not easy to detect, even with a telescope. 29% are fractional eclipses which are relaxed to see with the natural eye. Final 36% or so are total eclipses, and these are quite unusual events to observe.
A solar eclipse is an eclipse of the Sun. It happens when the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun. This is only possible when the Moon is in the New Moon phase.
